How to Winterize Your eBike.

Updated: Nov 23

Be prepared for the cold weather months and ride with confidence throughout the winter season.

  1. Service your eBike with a full maintenance check and a tune-up.

-- Adjust the brakes, shift the bike tuning, lubricate the chain, check the tires, and inspect the firmware.
--Check and lubricate the bearings, examine the battery connections, clean the drive, frame, derailers, spokes and pedals.
  2. Depending on the surface area, you may want to swap your tires out. For softer, fluffy snow riding use the fat tire model or a studded tire for those icy surfaces.

-- Keep in mind the tire pressure will decrease in colder temperatures.

  1. Inspect all motor and battery connections and replace or tighten areas that are not 100% secure.

-- Seal connections that are exposed (shrink if desired, not needed), replace ripped battery bags or cracked mounts. You can also shrink wrap the LCD screen from extended wet exposure.
  2. Mount reflectors, Rear and Front eBike Lights, Adjust your helmet and restock your Safety/Emergency bag.

-- Your safety bag should include items such as a Multi-tool, spare tube, pliers, tire patch, band-aids, grease and pump.
  3. Upgrade your eBike battery to a model that can handle colder temperatures. There is a difference between standard models and high performance cells.

-- Check out our Winter Collection and learn why ours are better cold weather performers!
  4. After-Ride Care: Wipe down your eBike after every ride, removing salt, snow or water from all areas.

-- Like cars, salt that kicks up from the road is extremely bad for your bike.
  5. Store your eBike at room temperature between rides, and not in a cold garage over an extended period of time.

-- It is important to keep your eBike and Battery away from extreme temperatures. So, don't store it anywhere too cold or too hot.

These are good ideas. However, it is not possible to bring three bikes with two batteries each inside the house when it gets cold. It would take up most of a small room. I live in central Texas and have not noticed deterioration of battery power after several winters. Going below freezing happens, but is not common. How cold and how long in the cold before the batteries are harmed??
